New Zealand’s newest town centre
Ravenswood is now officially the region’s newest Key Activity Centre (town centre). The designation, made by Waimakariri District Council in 2023, reflects the importance of the area to provide services and business support for the fast growing community, which now surrounds Ravenswood Central.
Currently, almost 10,000 people live in the primary catchment for Ravenswood Central. Across the wider community – including Rangiora, Pegasus, Woodend and Kaiapoi – many local people now choose to shop at Ravenswood Central. Taking into account the significant amount of traffic that passes every day on State Highway 1, the centre has a secondary catchment of close to 70,000 people.
Immediately to the North of Ravenswood Central, a major rezoning has also been approved, which will add up to 3,000 additional homes to the community. With population growth guaranteed, the commercial centre of Ravenswood will go from strength to strength as more residents move into the area
Demand for business, commercial and administrative services in the Ravenswood/Pegasus/Woodend catchment is projected to grow by 260% to over $350 million per annum by 2043.
A second building now open within Ravenswood Central offers a host of new services for the local community, including a healthcare centre and pharmacy.
A third building is now in the planning and leasing stages for Ravenswood Central with construction expected to begin in 2026. This will provide space for four new businesses, with one site already leased to leading international pizza brand, Dominos. Expressions of Interest are now also being taken for Building Four within the centre.
